Understanding Carbon Emissions
The first step in any carbon mitigation strategy is to measure the amount of carbon that your company is emitting. Carbon emissions are broadly classified into Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions:

Scope 1
Direct greenhouse gas emissions from sources controlled or owned by an organisation (e.g. fuel combustion in boilers, furnaces, vehicles).
Scope 2
Indirect greenhouse gas emissions associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling.
Scope 3
All other indirect greenhouse gas emissions arising from a company’s value chain (e.g. purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting).
